As a Dexter Broadband Customer, you want...
- A company, and people that you can depend upon -
day and night.
- Your site should be accessible to the entire net,
even when a major link has failed.
- Your personal/corporate access, whether dial-up
or dedicated, should have fast access to all internet
sites and should continue to operate even when a particular
link is down.
- Dexter Broadband has elected
a strategy which ensures that our customers will get
all these, and more.
What is "our" network architecture?
We at Dexter Broadband have built
one of the most reliable networks available. A network
that is in our own Network Operations Center (NOC).
A network that we own, operate and manage from end to
end. A network built on only the finest hardware. A
network that includes the following;
- Redundant Gigabit Ethernet backbone feeds.
- Only Cisco routing equipment is used.
- Gig Ethernet is used to connect the servers
to the backbone providers.
- Multiple managed switches are used that monitor
each Ethernet connection for performance thresholds
24 hours a day.
- Always on UPS Systems are in place with generator
backup.
- 24/7 network monitoring both onsite and offsite
with technical staff on call and available 24/7.
- Network utilization is currently at 20%. The threshold
is 50%. This means, that when 50% Bandwidth utilization
is reached, the number of lines to the Internet will
be increased!
Dexter Broadband has five separate major links into the
internet backbone. Our principle links are three FULL Gigabit Ethernet
(1000 megabit/second) connections into ATT, UUNet and Level3. Additional connectivity into the
St. Louis eXchange provides access to educational resources
and other local St. Louis region networks without the
need to criss-cross the country to the MAE's. Dexter Broadband has over 5
gigabits of backbone available at all times with fully redundant backbone access.
Our core routers are Cisco with dual processors
and redundant power supplies that are fed by seperate
power sources. In addition, two of each required card
has been pre-installed in order to provide immediate
backup in the unlikely event of a hardware failure.
Separate and redundant connections through multiple
access points is called multi-homing. Multi-homing allows
internet traffic to be routed along the most effective
paths. Besides providing faster access to commonly accessed
data sources, our multi-homed strategy also provides
redundant workarounds to ensure that your business connection
and site are available to the entire internet community
at all times, even if one of our links may be down.
A data center quality UPS (uninteruptible power supply)
combined with a generator provides multi-phase conditioned
on-line power protection for the entire NOC (network
operations center).
